The United Arab Emirates has called for greater use of artificial intelligence (AI), digital technologies and innovation to speed up the global shift towards clean energy, as countries work to meet their sustainable development goals.

These comments were made during a UN high-level debate about the future of the global energy sector. During a session entitled ‘Powering the Future: Is the World Ready for the Next Energy Era?’, the nation emphasized the importance of adopting technologies and international collaboration to make affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy available.

UAE Pushes AI, Digital Innovation to Accelerate Global Clean Energy Transition

The UAE highlighted the role of AI and other digital technologies in transforming energy systems and supporting the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7). The goal focuses on ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.

The representative of the country also emphasized that innovations can help increase the use of clean energy solutions along with increasing resilience and efficiency of energy infrastructure. Fostering partnerships among governments, businesses, and international organizations will also boost the development of clean technologies.

UAE Stresses Investment and Policy Support

The UAE adopted a holistic model for energy and infrastructure growth. Emphasizing increased investments, cooperation at an international level, and the need for conducive policies.

According to the UAE, these will increase access to renewable energy technology. This comes amid the need to translate technological progress into increased access to sustainable energy sources. UAE also emphasized the need to support SIDS in their clean energy transition for various reasons, one of which is the high energy and climate-related challenges in such countries.

As countries seek to balance rising energy demand with climate goals, the UAE said emerging technologies could play a critical role in building a cleaner, more resilient and sustainable energy future.
