Samsung is all set to unveil the Galaxy Ring 2, its next-generation smart ring. The announcement came from Dr. Hon Pak, Senior Vice President and Head of Samsung's Digital Health Team, during a recent interview with Forbes. While the company didn’t reveal any specifications or a launch timeline, it made one thing clear: the Galaxy Ring lineup remains central to Samsung's long-term digital health strategy.
The confirmation arrives nearly two years after the original Galaxy Ring debuted, ending speculation over whether Samsung would continue investing in the wearable category.
During the interview, Pak said. “We have a unique way of connecting devices, the data that comes together, those ambient sensing capabilities, plus the wearables. We think we are one of the few companies that could really pull off this ecosystem.”
When asked about the compatibility of future Galaxy Ring devices with anything other than Android, Dr. Pak grinned at the prospect of making users ‘very happy’ with what's to come. The tech giant is working on various Samsung Health features, such as Vitals, Heart Health Score, and an AI-based health coach. These features are designed to track users' sleep, stress, nutrition, and activity, and to provide personalized recommendations based on each user's health profile.
Should Samsung make its device compatible with iPhones, it would expand its potential user base. Furthermore, Samsung would be better positioned to compete with Oura, which offers smart rings that work on both Android and iOS.
Samsung also revealed a shift in strategy for its wearable business. Previously, Samsung focused primarily on sensor and hardware innovations. Now, the new aim is to use software and AI-driven services as a key difference-maker.
As Dr. Pak explained, highly advanced smart rings now offer similar sensor technology. Samsung plans to differentiate itself by building a connected ecosystem that combines data from Galaxy phones, smartwatches, smart rings, and SmartThings devices.
