Apple will present its first foldable iPhone with a simpler design avoiding extravagant form factor elements. Apple is likely to launch the product in two color options, featuring silver-white and deep indigo. The latest iPhone leaks suggest a completely new color palette, which differs from the previous standard model release which used more vibrant color schemes.
The tech giant wants its foldable iPhone to be a separate product line, which will not compete with its existing iPhone models. The company may use minimal color choices to reinforce the product’s ultra-premium image. The strategy resembles Apple’s earlier approach with the iPhone X.
Apple later expanded options in subsequent generations after stabilizing production. Experts believe the foldable phones target a niche luxury segment. The aim is to create aesthetically pleasing designs fit for the new-age customers.
Several reports show that manufacturing challenges create the need for restricted color options. The production of foldable smartphones requires manufacturers to create advanced hinge systems, flexible displays, and complex assembly systems. Thus, reducing color options can help boost production efficiency and improve output success rates.
Supply constraints will remain in place until late 2026 since suppliers need time to increase their production capacity for the new form factor. The tech giant aims to reduce crease visibility and make products more durable.
The foldable iPhone Ultra is expected to have a book-style build, featuring a large inner display and a smaller external screen. The device is also expected to have Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip and dual 48MP rear cameras.
The phone may bring back the Touch ID feature by using a sensor that users can find on the device's side. The phone's price may reach $2,000, which would make it Apple’s most expensive iPhone model to date. The product has not received official confirmation from Apple.
