UAE Flag Day 2026 will be observed on Tuesday, November 3, with schools, government institutions, workplaces, and families across the Emirates expected to participate in flag-raising ceremonies. However, the annual national occasion will not bring an additional holiday for students, and schools are expected to operate as usual.

The nationwide celebrations will traditionally take place at 11 am, with the UAE flag raised across all seven emirates. Parents have been advised to check with their children's schools for details about ceremony timings and planned activities.

UAE Flag Day 2026: Why November 3 Is Significant

UAE Flag Day is observed every year on November 3, marking the anniversary of the Late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan becoming President of the UAE in 2004.

Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the initiative in 2013 to encourage citizens and residents to celebrate the national flag and the values it represents. This year's observance marks the 14th edition.

In a message shared on October 27, Sheik Mohammed called on ministries, government institutions, schools, universities, and families across all seven emirates to raise the national flag. He described the occasion as a shared expression of national pride, concluding his message with: ‘Long live the homeland, long live the Flag.’

How Schools Will Celebrate UAE Flag Day

Schools across the Emirates may organize flag-raising ceremonies, special assemblies and classroom activities. The national anthem may be played or sung during gatherings, while lessons could introduce students to the country's history, national identity, and the significance of the flag's four colors.

Some institutions may also arrange art projects and other flag-themed activities that highlight unity, respect, and belonging. Celebrations will vary between schools.

What do UAE Flag Colors Represent?

The UAE flag features red, green, white, and black. Red honors the sacrifices of earlier generations who helped establish the Union. Green represents growth, prosperity, and cultural revival. White reflects the UAE's humanitarian contributions and commitment to security and peace, while black symbolizes Emirati strength and rejection of injustice and extremism.

Will Schools Remain Open on November 3?

UAE Flag Day is not an official public holiday. Schools and workplaces are expected to function normally on Tuesday, November 3. Do not confuse it with Eid Al Etihad, the UAE's National Day, celebrated on December 2, which is an official public holiday.

Flags must also be kept clean and in good condition. Replace damaged or faded flags, and dispose of unsuitable flags appropriately. Burning them is not permitted under the cited guidelines.
