Apple's latest smartwatch software update, watchOS 27, promises to completely change the experience for Apple Watch users in the UAE. The update brings a wide range of AI-powered features and interface improvements. However, it won’t support several older Apple Watch models.
watchOS 27 will have limited device compatibility, working only on models powered by Apple's S9 and newer chips. This is one of the largest support drops ever in the company's history. The operating system is compatible with Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, Series 11, Ultra 2, Ultra 3 and third-generation Apple Watch SE.
All these devices will be able to use most of the watchOS 27 features, including enhanced Siri AI capabilities, improved health features and a redesigned user interface. Still, many widely used Apple Watch models will not receive the update. They include Apple Watch Series 6, Series 7, Series 8, the first generation of Apple Watch Ultra and the second generation of Apple Watch SE.
Those who own these watches will still be able to use the current version of the software without getting access to any updates or features of watchOS 27.
Such a decision raised some controversy among Apple Watch owners. The original Ultra and SE 2 might receive more extended support owing to recent release dates. According to PCMag, “this marks the most aggressive compatibility cut Apple has made for watchOS in recent years.”
For consumers planning to purchase a smartwatch, watchOS 27 compatibility has become an important factor. Buyers looking for long-term software support may find older discounted models less attractive despite lower prices.
The Apple Watch Series 10 stands out as a strong value option. The device sports the latest generation hardware, powerful health monitoring and software support. For budget-oriented shoppers, the third-gen Apple Watch SE may be the better choice. The SE mode provides access to watchOS 27 without Apple's premium cost.
For athletes, the new Apple Watch Ultra 2 is definitely the best fit. The device features durable construction, a longer-lasting battery and software support for years ahead. Looks like Apple Watch updates will hinge much more on computational horsepower.
