The new Legion C700 handheld gaming device will launch in August, the company confirmed. This product will focus on cloud gaming instead of running games directly on the device. The device is developed in partnership with Tencent and designed to stream supported titles through Tencent START. This marks a different approach from Lenovo's existing Legion Go gaming lineup.
The company shared the first official details through its Weibo account. It reveals the display specifications, gaming controls, and cloud gaming features. However, key hardware details such as the processor, memory, storage, and battery have not been announced.
The Legion C700 features a 7.82-inch IPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Lenovo says the handheld is equipped with TMR thumbsticks, Hall Effect triggers, an omnidirectional D-pad, two additional shoulder buttons, and two programmable rear buttons. According to the company, the controls have been tuned to improve the experience for cloud-based gaming.
The Legion C700 is designed to stream compatible titles directly through Tencent START, which makes it different from traditional handheld gaming systems that require games to be downloaded and installed. This feature allows users to access supported games instantly without waiting for downloads or updates. Lenovo stated that the service will offer a catalogue that includes both popular titles and newly released games available through the cloud platform.
While Lenovo has confirmed several external features, it has not disclosed the chipset powering the device or details related to RAM, internal storage, and battery capacity. The Legion C700 sits slightly below the Legion Go S in display size. The Legion Go S offers an 8-inch IPS display with the same 120Hz refresh rate. Promotional material released by Lenovo currently shows the new handheld in a white colour option.
The company has not announced whether additional finishes will be available at launch. The limited specifications suggest Lenovo is holding back several announcements ahead of the official unveiling scheduled for August.
The partnership with Tencent places cloud gaming at the centre of Lenovo's latest handheld strategy. Tencent START currently operates only in China, indicating that the Legion C700 could debut exclusively in the Chinese market before any wider rollout.
