Vivo’s upcoming foldable flagship, the Vivo X Fold 6, will be powered by a customized Dimensity 9500 Super Edition processor. This processor was co-developed with MediaTek. The custom-made chipset has been developed over nearly two years to improve productivity, multitasking, and on-device AI.
Compared to other flagship chips, the Dimensity 9500 Super Edition is built specifically for foldable phones. It also features multi-threading workloads and multi-window rendering.
According to a statement released by Vivo, “The Dimensity 9500 Super Edition isn’t a simple overclocked chip. The company says it began working with MediaTek two years ago to redesign parts of the platform specifically for foldables. The result is a processor that delivers a 111 percent increase in peak NPU performance while reducing power consumption by 56 percent compared to its predecessor.”
Another addition is the AI voice engine, which Vivo claims can increase the speed of offline transcription by up to seven times.
The chipset is designed to work with OriginOS 6 Fold, Vivo’s foldable-focused software platform. The device will feature an upgraded Atomic Workbench, which supports more advanced multi-window routines and smoother drag-and-drop interactions between apps.
Vivo has already teased a new multitasking mode that shows up to four windows at once. Critics suggest that these features might juggle up to five apps visible on the screen. The features make the X Fold 6 a foldable designed for people who want a desktop-style experience in a smartphone-sized device.
The smartphone giant is yet to make any official announcement about the entire spec sheet. However, leaks suggest the X Fold 6 could come with an 8.02-inch foldable display and a battery of around 7,000mAh. The upcoming model’s camera system will likely feature a 200MP main sensor and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens.
